The body of Major Flora Selemani has been laid to rest at her home, Mangunda Village in Thyolo District.
At exactly 12 noon, fellow MDF soldiers lowered the casket in the grave, followed by a 21 gun salute.
Two soldiers blew the last post trumpet, symbolising that the duty of Major Selemani is over and that she can rest in peace.
Major Selemani, who was the first female pilot in the MDF, died at the age of 45 in an aircrash that also killed Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima and seven others on Monday.
