President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has called on stakeholders to join hands with the government in promoting primary education in Malawi.
Chakwera was speaking on Thursday when he launched the construction of over 10,000 cost-effective classroom blocks and 1,000 change rooms for girls under the Malawi Education Reform Programme (MERP)at Chikolore Primary School in Senior Chief Kachindamoto’s area in Dedza.
The K150 billion project is being implemented by the Malawi Government, World Bank and Global Partnership for Education, among others, with the goal to improve the learning environment for students in lower primary in public schools in the 34 education districts.
President Chakwera underscored the need for various players to give attention to primary education, noting that it remains critical to the attainment of the Agenda 2063, Malawi’s long-term developmental blueprint.
The President expressed gratitude to the World Bank for financing the construction of classroom blocks and change rooms in primary schools across the country.
