Zomba Farmers happy with irrigation Schemes

Over 1,000 farmers in Zomba Chingale have expressed excitement over the construction of Mlooka and Matoponi irrigation schemes as they expect to cultivate more than three times a year.Constructed with support from Pride project, the two solar powered irrigation schemes which get its water from Shire river covers 256 hectares

One of the farmers Chifundo Bika said the irrigation scheme has provided him an opportunity to seriously venture into profitable farming.

Zomba Irrigation Officer, Nicolas Kumasala said the K4.3 billion scheme is one of the many irrigation schemes under construction and once completed would alleviate farmers from climate shocks.
