Tobacco market opening shifted to 15 April

The Tobacco Commission has rescheduled the opening of the 2023/2024 market season.

Speaking to MBC, acting Chief Executive Officer for the TC, Evans Chilumpha, says they have arrived at the decision in respect of the expected Eid holiday.

Government recently announced that, depending on the sighting of the moon, the Eid holiday will either be on April 10 or April 11.

The opening of the tobacco market season, which was set for April 10, has since been shifted to 15 April 2024.

Meanwhile, ferrying of tobacco to the auction floors is set to commence tomorrow.
