Mighty Tigers and FOMO played to a goalless draw at Mulanje Park Stadium on Sunday, sharing the points again just like their 2-2 draw in the first round of the TNM Super League.
Tigers remain in 12th place with 23 points while FOMO stay in 13th with 19 points.
The match could have taken a different turn in the 72nd minute when a potential own goal by Mighty Tigers was controversially ruled out after discussions among the referees.
The goalkeepers were standout performers, with FOMO’s Henry Mwandira making several critical saves, particularly from Tigers’ corner kicks. Tigers’ goalkeeper, Lucky Tizola, also played a vital role in denying FOMO’s advances.
The game was paused twice due to injuries—first for FOMO’s goalkeeper Mwandira in the 19th minute, and later for Tigers’ goalkeeper in the 77th minute.
Despite the lack of goals, FOMO’s Mike Banda was named Man of the Match for his strong midfield performance and attempts to break through the Tigers’ defence.
Tigers’ team leader, Robin Alufandika, acknowledged FOMO’s tactical preparation, attributing the draw to their strategic approach.
“It was a very good game. Tigers and FOMO are one—this is what I call the Sapitwa Derby. We should thank the heavens for getting a point,” Alufandika said.
FOMO coach Elvis Kafoteka, overseeing only his second match in charge, praised his team’s improved second-half performance, crediting tactical adjustments at half-time.
Super League action will resume on Wednesday and Thursday.
