United Civil Servants Sacco has praised the Southern Region Press Club (SRPC) for organising the establishment of a cooperative aimed at helping its members achieve financial independence.
SRPC, which has a piece of land in M’deka, Blantyre, has plans to venture into poultry farming, among others.
Chief Executive Officer for United Civil Servants Sacco, Francis Waliwa, made these remarks when he officially opened a five-day training on Financial Literacy and Management of a cooperative for members of SRPC in Blantyre.
Waliwa said the establishment of the cooperative is a game changer in transforming the life of a journalist.
“I am very much impressed with this initiative by SRPC. A financially stable media person can not be corrupted and is always professional when discharging work,” Waliwa said.
On his part SRPC President, Ronald Amosi commended United Civil Servants Sacco for sponsoring the training which he said will give media personnel skills on how best to run a cooperative.
Amosi said, “Being journalists we cannot just start running a cooperative without undergoing training. This training is critical for us in order to be successful in this new venture”.
