Less than 24 hours after the Speaker of Parliament barred four Democratic Progressive party (DPP) legislators from the House, some DPP lawmakers have blocked Parliament Building’s main entrance in solidarity with their colleagues.
On Monday, the Speaker, Catherine Gotani Hara, issued a two day suspension to the four for disobeying her orders, amid chaos that disrupted business in the House.
Come Tuesday, security officers were advised not to allow any member who was sent out, a situation that prompted a group of DPP legislators who sympathise with their newly appointed Leader of Opposition, Mary Navicha, who was among those suspended, to remain outside the building.
Meanwhile, the Speaker has now announced about 20 names of members of Parliament who are to serve a suspension and have been ordered to return in the House on Thursday.
Currently, Leader of Opposition,Kondwani Nankhumwa, is delivering his response to the SONA in Parliament despite legislator for Rumphi East Kamlepo Kaluwa interjecting on point of order, urging the Speaker to suspend proceedings.
