Kamuzu Barracks have ended their 55-day wait for a point in the 2026/27 FDH Bank Premiership after drawing 1-1 against league debutants LUANAR Mitundu FC at CIVO Stadium in Lilongwe on Friday.
The result has lifted KB to 14th position with 13 points, level with Creck Sporting Club and MAFCO FC but separated by goal difference.
Creck are 15th with -8 goals, while MAFCO remain bottom with -7 goals.
KB’s previous point came on August 22, 2026, when they drew 2-2 against Moyale Barracks.
The Malawi Defence Force-sponsored side started brightly, taking the lead in the 11th minute through Olson Kanjira, who chipped Mitundu goalkeeper Emmanuel Kanthiti.
Mitundu grew into the game towards the end of the first half but struggled to create clear-cut scoring opportunities.
The visitors continued to press early in the second half, forcing free-kicks and throw-ins as they searched for an equaliser.
In the 57th minute, Mitundu made a triple substitution in an attempt to change the course of the match, and the move paid off three minutes later when Rahim Mtondera volleyed home from the left to make it 1-1.
The equaliser gave Mitundu renewed confidence as they piled pressure on the hosts.
They came close to snatching a late winner in the 86th minute when Samson Phiri’s effort towards an open goal rebounded off his chest after KB goalkeeper Bonage Lweya failed to punch away a cross. However, Charles Kanyambwalika cleared the danger.
The draw leaves Mitundu eighth on the table with 22 points.
KB coach Jimmy Mzunga said his side struggled to protect their lead in the second half because of defensive shortcomings.
“This one point will push us somewhere, and come next game, I am sure we are going to collect the maximum points,” he said.
However, Mzunga admitted he was not satisfied with his team’s overall performance.
“We drew many positives from this game and when we go on our training ground we will polish two or three things,” he said.
On the other hand, Mitundu coach Oscar Kaunda described the result as fair, saying both sides played attacking football.
“The boys who came from the bench changed everything. I should thank them for that performance. It shows that the team is coming up,” Kaunda said.
He added that his side were not afraid of their upcoming fixtures and promised a stronger showing in the second round.
“We are going to fight in this second round, with 13 games to go you will see LUANAR Mitundu a changed one in the second round,” he said.
League action continues on Saturday when defending champions Mighty Wanderers face Creck Sporting Club at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre, while Civil Service United host Goshen City Dedza Dynamos at CIVO Stadium in Lilongwe.
