Presidents and government officials from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have extended the mandate of the SADC Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (SAMIDRC) for an additional year to address the ongoing security challenges in eastern DRC.
This is contained in a communique the regional bloc has released on Thursday.
The leaders, who convened in Harare, Zimbabwe, for the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government, also reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating with the Republic of Mozambique to promote peace, security, and stability through the relevant structures of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation.
SADC has since extended condolences to the government and people of Mozambique for the lives lost during post-election violence.
