The Private Schools Association of Malawi (PRISAM) is preparing to launch its Mzuzu Chapter in March, following the successful establishment of its Blantyre and Lilongwe chapters.
PRISAM President, Ernest Kaonga, expressed his satisfaction with the increasing number of members joining the organisation. He said that PRISAM has registered 434 members countrywide so far.
“We launched the Blantyre and Lilongwe chapters and we were left with Mzuzu which will be launched in the first week of March,” said Kaonga.
He attributed the growth of membership to the introduction of the Savings and Credit Cooperative (SACCO), which was launched a few weeks ago in Mponela. He said that the SACCO has already registered 321 members, including private school owners, teachers, and other stakeholders.
“Every day we are registering new members. Mind you, we opened this SACCO to all the stakeholders, be it civil servants or people working in the non-governmental sector,” said Kaonga.
The SACCO aims to offer access to affordable financing, loans, and savings schemes for its members, as well as educational resources and training.
Last week, PRISAM announced that it has opened its SACCO membership to everyone in the society, apart from its private schools.
