OLD MUTUAL AND WESM PARTNER TO RESTORE VEGETATION ON MICHIRU MOUNTAIN

Michiru Mountain is expected to wear a new face in the near future following rigorous re-afforestation, courtesy of a partnership between Old Mutual Malawi and the Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi (WESM).

Speaking during a tree planting exercise at Khombwe which is located on the other side of the mountain, Chief Executive Officer for Old Mutual, Edith Jiya, said it is encouraging that locals are taking a role in restoring nature on the mountain.

Environment Education and Communication Manager for WESM, Osward Bonongwe, said through the partnership, they will work with already existing tree protection committees around the mountain for the success of the initiative and to ensure a high survival rate of the trees.

Old Mutual plans to plant about 10,000 trees this year.
