New envoys hail Malawi for promoting rule of law and good governance

Four New foreign envoys who have presented their letters of credence to President Dr Lazarus Chakwera have hailed the Malawi leader for empowering women by appointing them in key decision-making positions.

The envoys who presented their letters to the President at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe said they are also encouraged that Malawi is among countries that are promoting the rule of law and good governance.

Speaking after presenting their letters of credence, Ambassador Natividad Isabel Pena Bonilla from the Kingdom of Spain said Malawi needs to do more on the issue of exports as only two companies export their goods to Spain.

She said Spain will deepen its diplomatic ties with Malawi through the already existing structures of the European Union where Spain is a member.

And Dr Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay, new Ambassador of the Republic of Gambia to Malawi, said her country has a lot of investors in various sectors, including housing and mining, who are interested to come to Malawi. She hailed the President for empowering women in Malawi, saying they are key to economic development.

Other envoys that presented their letters include Evelyn Butoyi of Burundi based in Lusaka and Sara Valdes of the United Mexican States.

In his remarks, Presidential press secretary Anthony Kasunda said all the envoys that have presented their letters are interested to work with Malawi within the ATM strategy, which is in line with President Chakwera’s vision.

Since President took the reins of power, the nation has reclaimed lost donor confidence as well as deepened diplomatic ties with various countries within Africa and beyond.
