The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Amref Health Africa, has officially launched a digital hub designed to track and monitor the government’s progress on international health commitments.
The hub, a first of its kind in Malawi, aims to centralise data and make it easier for stakeholders to assess the country’s advancements in the health sector.
Speaking during the launch, Director of Reproductive Health in the Ministry of Health, Doreen Ali, highlighted the significance of the hub in ensuring transparency and accountability.
“This digital hub is a game-changer for us. Previously, it was challenging to evaluate how well we were doing in fulfilling our international health obligations. Now, with this platform, we can track our progress in real-time, and this will help us improve our health service delivery,” said Ali.
The chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Health, Dr Matthews Ngwale, echoed these sentiments, stating that the new hub will assist legislators in performing their oversight duties more effectively.
“As lawmakers, it is our responsibility to ensure that the commitments made by the government are being met. With this hub, we will have access to reliable data that will inform our decisions and help us hold the government accountable,” Dr Ngwale remarked.
Hester Mkwinda Nyasulu, the Country Manager for Amref Health Africa, called on the media and the public to make full use of the digital resource.
“We encourage journalists, civil society organisations, and all citizens interested in health matters to explore this hub. It is a valuable tool that will provide accurate information on the country’s health achievements,” Nyasulu stated.
In the current national budget, the government has allocated 12.5% of the total budget to the Ministry of Health, a sign of the administration’s commitment to improving the health sector.
