Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services (DCCMS) has predicted a more favourable rainfall season for 2024-25 compared to the previous year.
DCCMS Director, Lucy Mtilatila, made this announcement on Friday in Lilongwe during the National Climate Outlook Forum (NACOF), a gathering of stakeholders in the climate industry.
Mtilatila said this means there might be fewer dry spells and that basing on the forecast, farmers can look forward to a favourable farming season as this year’s La Niña is expected to be weak.
For instance, in October there will be normal rains, November will experience dry conditions while in December rains will be anticipated. In January to March 225, she said it will be above-normal rainfall, mainly in the Southern Region.
