Minister of Health and Sanitation, Madalitso Baloyi, says Malawi is making progress in the fight against malaria, with cases dropping by 4 million between 2024 and 2025.
She said this during a commemoration of World Malaria Day in Lilongwe.
Baloyi disclosed that malaria-related deaths have also declined by 623 over the same period.
She attributed the progress to interventions by government and its partners and the widespread establishment of clinics across Malawi.
World Health Organization representative in Malawi, Charles Kuria Njuguna, emphasised that there is more work to be done with communities because they are the drivers of every intervention government is implementing.
Meanwhile, Save the Children Director of Programmes Operations, Chakufa Muthali, said the organisation has lobbied for funds for a “Learning Equipment Kit” programme.
The initiative targets primary schools by training teachers in malaria case management to help identify and refer cases early.
