Maganga was abroad during Witika’s murder, travel documents show

Travel documents and electronic bank transaction records tendered in court for Lester Maganga, who is being accused of killing Allan Witika  show that the accused was not in the country between 18 and 24 September 2023.

Documents, tendered in the court by defence lawyers, show that Maganga left the country for the USA on 17 September 2023 and returned home on 25 September 2023 via Chileka International Airport in Blantyre.

Allan Witika was found dead in his official company vehicle on 20 September 2023.

The defence had a lengthy cross-examination session with the second witness, Martin Kadewere, a former employee of Coca-Cola Company and the deceased’s close associate.  The cross-examination revolved around the travel documents and witness statement from Olive Nkhono, who is expected to testify in camera.

Meanwhile, Justice Mzondi Mvula, has adjourned to 3:50 pm with the state expected to re-examine their witness, Martin Kadewere.

Maganga is facing two counts,  murder which is contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code and possession of ammunition without permission. The state is expected to parade four witnesses today.
