Illovo invests K100 million to empower girls’ education

Illovo Sugar has expressed its commitment to empowering girls’ education in Malawi by addressing menstrual hygiene challenges through its “Rise for Girls” programme.

The company has invested K100 million towards the initiative.

During a donation ceremony at Namikasi Secondary School in Blantyre, the company’s Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs, Maureen Kachingwe, emphasised their dedication to promoting both education and health for girls in Malawi.

Illovo donated essential sanitary items to over 200 girls at the school, including sanitary pads, soap and buckets.

The school’s head girl Lucy Shonga, expressed gratitude for the support, saying the assistance would encourage them to work harder in their studies.

However, she also pointed out the ongoing challenge of inadequate changing and washing facilities at the school.
