Farmers in Kasungu embrace crop diversification for better yields

Smallholder farmers in  Chamama, Mthuthama, and Santhe Extension Planning Areas of Kasungu are turning to crop diversification to improve productivity and income.

Oxfam, in partnership with the Catholic Development Commission in Malawi (CADECOM) and the Circle for Integrated Community Development (CICOD), is spearheading the initiative.

Richard Kuseni, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning Officer for CADECOM, highlighted that crop diversification can significantly improve resilience and success in the face of climate and change.

According to Kuseni, the project also aims to link farmers with traders to ensure access to better markets.

One of the beneficiaries, Gladson Banda from Chamama and a member of Chakhala Club, says diversifying crops has enabled him to support his family and increase his farming profits.
