The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) says three people have died so far and over 2,300 households have been affected due to floods in Chikwawa, Mangochi and Nkhotakota districts, as well as Nkhatabay and Rumphi.
In a statement, Commissioner for Disaster Charles Kalemba says out of the figure, 1683 households are from Chikwawa, 500 households from Nkhotakota and 119 households are from Mangochi.
The statement has since called on district councils in the flood prone areas to evacuate residents in possible hotpots, adding that the department has made arrangements for the provision of relief assistance.
Kalemba has further disclosed that preliminary reports from Nkhata Bay and Rumphi district councils have also highlighted that flash floods have affected areas in traditional authorities Malanda and Mwalweni respectively.
Meanwhile, the Department of Water Resources has issued a warning about possible flooding in North Rukuru, South Rukuru, Hara,Nyungwe, Wovwe, Songwe, Kyungu, Lufilya, Limphasa, Nkhula, Lipimbi, Dwambazi, Dwangwa, Bua, Luweya, Kajilirwe, Kakwewa, Kalungulu, Kalwe, Luchelemu, Linthipe, Lingadzi, Lifidzi and Nadzipuru rivers.
