Parliament has risen sine die with Leader of the House, Jappie Mhango, reaffirming government’s commitment to bailing out Malawians from economic challenges.
In his adjournment speech, Mhango, said the House debated and passed 14 Bills including the Bills of Exchange, which phases out use cheques in all transactions.
The House also received 8 Ministerial Statements, including one on the situation of xenophobic attacks affecting Malawians in South Africa.
While 29 questions were put to various ministries for replies.
On matters of national importance, Parliament dealt with the matter about a fertiliser manufacturing company in Dowa District, the animal – wildlife conflict in Mzimba District and rising cases of suicide in the district.
In conclusion, Mhango said government’s task remains to restore confidence, strengthen fiscal discipline, stimulate production, attract investors and improve living conditions of our people, because Malawians deserve an economy that works.
He went on to hint on Constituency Development Fund as a development game changer which Members of Parliament stood capitalise to on.
In summing, Mhango thanked President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for allowing Parliament to extend for one more week, while also thanking fellow Members for discipline and orderly conduct of business.
Taking to the podium earlier, Leader of Opposition Simplex Chithyola Banda asked government to take advantage of the Kasiya Rutile project to grow the economy and commended government for making food available.
