AMREF reaches out to Phalombe DHO

AMREF Health Africa has donated medical equipment worth K45 million to Phalombe District Health Office (DHO).

Speaking when handing over the equipment at Reverend John Chilembwe Hospital in Phalombe, Project Manager for the organisation, Young Samanyika, says nearly six health facilities were affected by Cyclone Freddy and more than a year later, they are still grappling with the aftermath.

Samanyika adds that they have re-costructed Phalombe Health Centre at a cost of K50 million.

Human Resource Manager for Reverend John Chilembwe Hospital, Fred Kaipa, says the equipment will breathe live into the affected health facilities.

The consignment includes oxygen concentrators, BP examination machines, wheelchairs and pushing trollies.

Armref Health Africa has been operating in Malawi since 2012.
