Christians celebrate Palm Sunday

Some Christian churches, notably the Anglican Church and Catholics in the country, have today commemorated Palm Sunday, which they believe marked Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

It heralds the beginning of the Holy Week in the Lent period, whose climax will be the Easter commemoration beginning on Good Friday.

Delivering a homily at Chilomoni in Blantyre, Reverend Father Allan Chanju Banda of Holy Cross Anglican Church encouraged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith.

He encouraged the faithful to have renewed hope through the word of God and to share it with others.

Lent is the religious observance of the 40 days that Jesus, whom Christians believe to be their lord and saviour, spent fasting in the desert while withstanding temptations by Satan.
