Late President Gottfried Geingob [The Namibian]
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says President Dr Lazarus Chakwera will be traveling to Windhoek, Namibia to attend the state funeral of the late Dr Hage Gottfried Geingob, President of that country.
The state funeral, which is set for Sunday, 25 February 2024, will be attended by various dignitaries, including Heads of State from the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
In a statement released today, the ministry says President Chakwera will leave Kamuzu International Airport on Saturday and is expected to return on Sunday after the state funeral.

President Geingob died on 4 February 2024 in the capital, Windhoek, at the age of 82.
Nangolo Mbumba, who was that country’s Vice President, was then sworn in as the interim president of Namibia.
Geingob was first elected president in 2014 and was Namibia’s longest serving prime minister and third president.
In January this year, the Namibian Government announced that he was receiving treatment for cancer.
In 2013, Geingob underwent brain surgery and in 2023 he underwent an aortic operation in South Africa and up until his death, he had been receiving treatment at Lady Pohamba Hospital in Windhoek.
