BCI advances climate-resilient farming project

Biodiversity Conservation Initiative (BCI) has affirmed its commitment to implementing the 5th Benefit Sharing Fund (BSF) project in Malawi, focusing on neglected and underutilized crop species to bolster climate resilience, enhance nutrition, and improve farmers’ incomes.

During a one-day meeting with international Research Centers and the National Gene in Lilongwe, BCI Project Coordinator, Fredrick Sanga said they are targeting eight crops which are sorghum, finger millet, potato, pearl millet, sunflower, pigeon peas, beans and cowpeas.

Head of the Malawi Plant Genetic Resources Centers at the Department of Agricultural Research Services, Modester Kachapila, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the BSF project.

The Biodiversity Conservative Initiative was established to support Community Development through the conservation and sustainable use of agricultural biological resources for food and agriculture in Malawi.
