District Commissioner for Dowa James Kanyangalazi has demanded prospective contractors to be engaged in the infrastructure development under the Reformed Constituency Development Fund (CDF), to deliver quality and durable projects which will bring meaningful impact to the people in the district.
He made the remarks on Tuesday after the council held a meeting with the prospective contractors to strategize before signing contracts and rolling out projects, which he highlighted are performance based.
“We want each and every project to be delivered in accordance to contracts, designs and time. Each should be value for money. Projects should be resilient to effects of climate change like floods, heavy winds, heavy rains and changing temperatures,” said Kanyangalazi.
“Of importance again is that we are going to give contractors project advance money like through bank bonds. We want to make it clear that every money from Dowa must be used in Dowa.
“We do not expect contractors to utilise our money in other projects elsewhere because that would mean depriving the people of Dowa of good timely projects,” said Kanyangalazi.
Executive Director for Foundation for Irrigation and Sustainable Development (FISD) Limited Company, Kondwani Nanchukwa, in an interview said this was an important engagement.
“But as FISD, we are very much committed to offer both quality and timely projects. These are projects for the development of the country and we are Malawians. And as FISD, we are a home-grown company, so we are very much geared to offer the best,” he said.
