Govt launches 57 development projects in Thyolo

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Ben Phiri has launched 57 development projects in Thyolo under the Reformed Constituency Development Fund (CDF), with a call to contractors and council authorities to adhere to set standards and avoid misusing development funds.

Phiri launched the projects valued at K32.8 billion at Kankhomba Primary School grounds in Bvumbwe-Masenjere Constituency.

Phiri said under the reformed CDF, government under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s administration wants eye-catching, standard and durable infrastructure to change the face of all districts.

According to Thyolo District Commissioner Noel Dakamau, each constituency has so far received K3.8 billion out of the K5 billion target.

He said with this amount, the district earmarked 57 development projects across the district, out of which 43 have already been awarded to contractors.

Bvumbwe-Masenjere Member of Parliament Charles Mchacha hailed President Mutharika for fulfilling the K5 billion CDF pledge, noting that it will change the country’s development landscape.

Mchacha said the realisation of the fund has enabled him to fulfil the manifesto he made during the campaign.

The launch brought together people from all walks of life in Thyolo to have first-hand experience of how government under President Mutharika is placing people’s welfare at the heart of its work through the Reformed Constituency Development Fund.
