Minister of Defence, Harry Mkandawire, has appealed to the corporate world and the public to continue supporting the country’s war veterans.
Mkandawire made the remarks on Saturday evening during a Military Veterans Thanksgiving Golf Tournament at Country Club Limbe in Blantyre.
Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Commander, General Paul Velentino Phiri, echoed the Minister’s sentiments in calling for more support to improve the welfare of the veterans.
NBS Bank organised the tournament and contributed K60 million towards the veterans.
Over 160 golfers took part in the tournament, representing teams of two each.
A team of Private Witman Brown and Private Alick Dzonzi from the MDF emerged champions after collecting 50 points.
The initiative is part of Poppy Week which will be commemorated on 10 November in Zomba.
