VIHEMA calls for collective effort in making deaf-blindness visible

Visual, Hearing Impairment Membership Association (VIHEMA) has called on Malawians to join hands in addressing challenges that people with visual and hearing face.

VIHEMA’s Advocacy and Training Officer, Hawkins Munyenyembe, says financial and material support can help improve people’s well-being.

Munyenyembe’s remarks come as Malawi joins the rest of the world in observing World Deaf-blindness Week, which commenced on 23 June,2024.

He said deafness and blindness are disabilities that need proper attention from the public and added that the activities marking the climax of the observation will take place on 27 June in Balaka where, among others, people with deaf and visual impairment will showcase their skills.

This year’s theme for the observation is “Making deaf-blindness visible with action”.
