Analysts hail Chakwera’s parliamentary engagement on national development

Political analysts are optimistic about the potential for national development as President Dr Lazarus Chakwera prepares to address Parliament this afternoon in Lilongwe.

Dr Chakwera will take questions from legislators regarding his recent State of the Nation Address (SONA) this afternoon at the August House in Lilongwe.

According to Latimu Matenje, a social commentator, this engagement is critical for shedding light on key national issues, providing much-needed clarity after the SONA.

“The trajectory of national development depends greatly on how Parliament and the cabinet pose their inquiries and how the President responds,” Matenje emphasized.

Adding voice to the development, Humphrey Mvula, underscored the significance of this interaction, noting that it offers an opportunity for the President to address misunderstandings among the legislators.

“Submitting to scrutiny in the August House is a hallmark of democratic governance,” Mvula emphasised.

In his SONA on 9 February 2024, President Chakwera called upon all Malawians to collaborate in building upon the government’s initiatives aimed at job creation and economic prosperity.

He also tackled key issues such as food security, energy, mining, and tourism, all of which are vital for the country’s development.

The Malawi leader is expected in Parliament at 2 pm.
