National Advocacy and Awareness Campaign on Early Childhood Development (ECD)

The Development Broadcasting Unit (DBU) is implementing a national advocacy awareness campaign on Early Childhood Development (ECD). The project seeks to promote visibility, enhance enrolment, and advocate for improved support for ECD services in Community-Based Child Care Centres (CBCCs).

Community mobilization activities have been held and recorded in selected communities in Balaka, Nkhotakota, and Mzimba districts for broadcast on our radio and television platforms to among other things;

  • Promote advocacy and awareness on ECD
  • Promote community involvement and early childhood learning
  • Support active male involvement in ECD, and improve responsive parenting

UNICEF and the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare are providing technical support for the campaign with financial assistance from the government of Germany through KfW. Mibawa television is supporting the dissemination of messages for the campaign. The project started in March 2024 and is expected to end later this year – 2025.

Popular Mobilization and Public Awareness Campaign on Clean Energy

DBU is also implementing a national project on promoting equitable access to clean energy (PEACE) in Salima district, and peri-urban areas of Lilongwe and Blantyre.

Led by a consortium of Oxfam, the Centre for Environmental Policy and Advocacy (CEPA), and the Civil Society Network on Climate Change (CISONECC), the European Union-funded project seeks to ensure that at least 5.2 million people across Malawi have access to information on clean energy solutions. Among the expected outcomes for the initiative are;

  • Increased investment in clean energy solutions
  • Increased adoption and use of clean energy solutions
  • Amplified voices for the rights of marginalized groups advocating for access to clean, reliable and affordable clean energy solutions

The main channels of communication for the initiative are radio, television and community outreach activities. Implementation time line: June 2024 – July 2025
