Chief Resident Magistrate Madalitso Chimwaza has adjourned to a later day the National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) Fuel Contract Case.
During today’s hearing, the defence failed to cross-examine NOCMA Deputy Chief Executive Officer Hellen Buluma who is the state witness following an adjournment plea the state made to the court on the grounds that the witness was mentally exhausted and not ready.
Before resumption, the state which is being represented by ACB Director General, Martha Chizuma, said Buluma had left the premises in search of medical attention.
Chimwaza has however asked the state to furnish the court with Buluma’s medical report.
During Buluma’s cross examination this week, Buluma mentioned that she recorded conversations that she had with ex-presidential advisor, Chris Chaima and former Minister of Energy, Newton Kambala on the oil contracts deal because she received pressure on how to handle the contracts.
Kambala, Chaima Banda, and Aford president Enoch Chihana face accusations of influencing NOCMA in fuel supply contract awards, arrested by the ACB in August 2021.
The three were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau in August 2021.
