Young scorchers back home for second leg

Malawi’s Under-20  National Women’s team, Young Scorchers, have returned home after they played a 1-1 draw against Guinea-Bissau in the 2026 U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The two clashed on 7 February at Estádio 24 dear Setembro in Bissau.

They will meet in the second-leg on 14 February at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

The Young Scorchers came from behind in their game against Guinea-Bissau.

They  conceded in the 48th mimute after Quita Da Silva converted through a free kick and Malawi equalised in the 75th through Sarah Mlimbika.

Coach for the team, Maggie Chombo, said she will try to rectify some of the challenges they encountered in the previous game.

“I think the problem that we had was finishing. We will work out on that,” Chombo said.

The winner of this round will face either Nigeria or Senegal in the fourth round in May. In the game between those two nations, Nigeria won 1-0.

The team that wins the final round shall proceed to the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which shall be held in Poland between 5 and 27 September in the cities of Łódź, Katowice, Sosnowiec, and Bielsko-Biała.
