World Vision vows to keep girls in school

As the World commemorates International Day of Girl Child, World Vision Malawi says natural disasters like Cyclone Freddy and the food crisis continue to reverse progress made in reducing teenage pregnancies and child marriages in the country.

Advocacy Campaigns & Safeguarding Manager for World Vision Malawi, Lizzie Lombe, said even though some progress has been made, girls in disaster-hit areas are still facing increased risks of abuse, early pregnancies and dropping out of school.

Lombe, however, emphasized that her organization is scaling up school meal programmes and access to sexual reproductive health services.

She called on all stakeholders to strive to empower the girl child at a young age.
