World Bank has applauded communities of Senior Chief Kunthembwe in Blantyre District for playing a critical role in land and forest management.
World Bank Country Manager for Malawi, Firas Raad, said this after appreciating Malawi Watershed Services Improvement Project (MWASIP) interventions funded by the Bretton Woods institution.
Raad said he is happy to see communities embracing sustainable land management and re-afforestation while improving their livelihoods.
Raad said:” As a bank, we are happy that the project of supporting watersheds management is bearing fruit and benefiting communities in rural areas.”
Alfred Mkwanda, one of the beneficiaries pursuing beekeeping, said his group has already made K6 million from the 60 Kilogrammes of honey produced last year.
MWASIP is being implemented in seven districts, among them Zomba, Mangochi and Balaka.
