Ministry of Education has acknowledged that vocational training helps to fill gaps within communities due to factors such as poverty or limited educational opportunities.
Director of Higher Education in the Ministry, Levis Eneya, said this after World Relief Malawi has trained and equipped 360 youths in Dedza District with vocational skills and start-up tool kits worth K140 million.
This is under a World Relief initiative called Dedza Vocational Training Project, which aims to enhance employment opportunities and self-reliance for youths who dropped out of school.
World Relief Malawi Country Director, Matilda Chirwa, said their goal is to train 1,500 youths by 2028 in trades like tailoring, carpentry and welding.
Chirwa added that the efforts align with the country’s 2063 agenda, which prioritises youth-centred growth, hence empowering them with start-up kits.
