US-based non-profit organisation brings health services closer to communities

Around 50,000 people from over 90 villages under Senior Chief Mkanda in Mchinji District will no longer need to travel long distances for healthcare, following the construction of the K700 million Nafunse Health Clinic and six modern staff houses in Mbewa Village.

A US-based non-profit organisation, Our Aim Foundation, constructed the clinic which will be offering crucial services like maternity care, immunisations and check-ups.

The Foundation’s founder, Nisha Mandani, said the facility will also be providing emergency services and help combat prevalent diseases like malaria and other waterborne diseases.

Mandani said she established the Foundation after witnessing the struggles in vulnerable communities in Malawi and beyond to support communities with free access to water, healthcare and education to communities in Mchinji.

She stressed the need for strong collaborative efforts and partnerships in empowering communities in hard-to-areas with essential resources and infrastructure needed to ensure the well-being and prosperity of everyone in the country.

One of the Commissioners for Health Services Commission, Dr Damson Kathyola, said the facility will help reduce maternal and mortality deaths in the district.
