President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has urged religious leaders in Malawi to join forces with his government in the quest to restore the country’s environment.
Speaking during an interaction with religious leaders from the Eastern Region at Chikoko-Bay State Lodge in Mangochi on Wednesday, President Chakwera emphasised that the fight against environmental degradation requires a collective effort.
Dr Chakwera noted that religious leaders have a vital role to play in mobilizing their followers to take action.
The President’s call comes at a time when Malawi is facing severe environmental challenges, including deforestation, soil erosion, and climate change.
President Chakwera highlighted that his government has recently mobilized a Nairobi-based company to support over 2 million households with modern cooking stoves. This initiative aims to reduce the country’s dependence on charcoal for domestic purposes.
He added that religious leaders can help shape a culture of sustainability and responsibility by incorporating environmental stewardship into their teachings and practices.
