Organisation moves to strengthen resilience in disaster-prone areas

As the country continues to deal with climate change effects, an organization called Water Witness International has distributed materials meant to support Village Disaster Risk Management committees, Lead farmers and Irrigation farmers of Traditional Authority Chapananga in Chikwawa District.

These include early warning kits, first aid supplies for search and rescue operations, early maturing and drought-tolerant crop seeds.

The organisation’s Project Officer for Climate Just Communities, Lester Nanjala, said the project seeks to strengthen resilience where local Institutions are equiped to manage climate risks and safeguard vulnerable groups.

He said:” This initiative aligns with national policies and district development plans, ensuring it supports the country’s long term climate resilience goals.”

Lovemore Guta, who belongs to one of the Village Disaster Risk Management committees, hailed the organisation for the items, saying they will help to increase food security by promoting climate resilient agriculture practices.
