Scorchers drop Chawinga Sisters in COSAFA squad

Malawi National Women’s Football team has dropped their Europe and America-based players in their final squad for the 2024 HollywoodBets COSAFA Women’s Championship.

The team has since left for the contest which will be held in Gqeberha, South Africa from 22 October to 2 November 2024.

Earlier this month, Scorchers Coach, Lovemore Fazili, named a 38-provisional squad which included 10 foreign-based players.

However, among them, Tabitha Chawinga (Lyonas – France), Rose Kabzere (Montpellier – France), Temwa Chawinga (Kansas City – USA), Chioma Okafor (University of Connecticut Women’s Soccer – USA) and Vitumbiko Mkandawire (ZISD – Zambia) have been left out.

Nonetheless, Fazili has only included three internationals like Vanessa Chikupila (Green Buffaloes – Zambia), Sabina Thom (TP Mazembe – DR Congo) and Mary Chavinda (Rayon – Rwanda).

Malawi are the defending champions of this trophy.
