Voter registration for the 2025 General Election has officially commenced in Karonga District, with residents steadily visiting Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) registration centres to have their names added to the electoral roll.
According to MEC’s District Elections Officer for Karonga, Elias Nyirenda, registration started in all 157 registration centres at exactly 8:00 AM.
“So far, the registration process has started on a good note and we have not received any technical reports of devices failing to capture details of the voters,” said Nyirenda.
He added that MEC has mobilized teams on the ground to encourage people to register.
He further urged stakeholders such as the National Initiative for Civic Education and accredited civil society organisations to help mobilise people to register.
This year, voter registration is being conducted using MEC’s newly adopted Election Management Devices, with the registration period in Karonga running from October 21 to November 3, 2024.
