The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has urged higher learning institutions to operate above minimum standards to produce quality graduates.
Harry Gombachika, NCHE’s Board Chairperson, made the call in Blantyre during a meeting meant to provide guidance to Vice Chancellors and Registrars of tertiary education institutions in the country to attain quality assurance.
“There have been reports of underperforming people who graduate from universities and colleges. When they go into the industry, they do not perform as expected, hence the meeting,” Gombachika said.
Vice Chancellor for the Malawi University of Science and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), Nancy Chitera, who is an Associate Professor, said the meeting has reminded them of the important role that higher education institutions have towards the realisation of the Malawi 2063.
