People in Nkhatabay District who are benefitting from the Social Support Resilience Livelihoods Project (SSRLP) have affirmed that their lives have improved to a sustainable level.
They made the remarks when Technical Team Leader for the SSRLP at the World Bank Malawi, Chipo Msowoya, who is also the Social Protection Specialist at the Bank, visited the beneficiaries to appreciate progress of the components of the project.
Mary Musiwa of Nabayoti Village, T/A Malenga Mzoma in the district, said after being trained by COMSIP on
entrepreneurship and saving, she opened a grocery.
“From the initial payment of K330,000 from Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme, I started my grocery business which is helping me to pay school fees for my three children as well as finalising my house project,” Musiwa said.
Speaking after touring various projects which are being implemented by COMSIP under the SSLRP, projects coordinator, Paul Chipeta, expressed satisfaction with the transformation taking place.
“The project was aimed at improving people’s lives and ensuring that while they work to improve the environment they should also be graduating from poverty,” said Chipeta.
Nkhatabay and Dedza are the districts where the World Bank is conducting an Impact Evaluation Study to determine interventions of the programme which are more effective in livelihoods improvement.
