NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA) has disclosed that it has registered 54 per cent compliance rate in registration and licencing of Non-Governmental organisations in the country.
Director of Registration and Compliance at NGORA, Patrick Mwale, noted that as of 31 December 2024, the deadline they had set for all NGOs to comply with legal requirements, 130 out of the initial 344 non-compliant NGOs were still operating without proper registration and licensing.
Mwale said currently they are providing support to a number of NGOs which are trying to register and submit their 2024 financial reports.
He added that they are finalising plans to publish a list of NGOs with valid 2025 licences and those newly registered to promote sanity and integrity in NGO working space.
Furthermore, Mwale said NGORA will soon issue a communication to all service providers to only provide services to registered and compliant NGOs in order to ensure NGOs are compliant with the law.
Previous, NGORA had received reports of organisations involved in illegal activities such as child trafficking and financial scams which undermine public trust and exploit vulnerable communities.
