Second Deputy Director of International Affairs for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Chalo Mvula, has commended President Dr Lazarus Chakwera for picking Vitumbiko Mumba as his running mate ahead of the September 16 General Election.
He has described Mumba as a candidate who “ticks all the boxes” for a transformative leadership duo.

Mvula also praised Mumba’s track record as a hard worker and deliverer, citing his impactful tenures as minister where he gained national acclaim for bold reforms and grassroots engagement.
“Mumba’s reputation as an excellent communicator and his ability to connect with citizens across regional divides further solidified his suitability,” he argued.
Human Rights activist, Agape Khombe, described the choice as a positive and strategic move that empowers the youth.
Khombe said Mumba’s selection reflects a deep commitment to youth representation in national leadership.

“This is the kind of approach we have long been advocating for. Mumba proved his capacity when he served as Minister of Labour, fighting for the rights of employees across various sectors,” said Khombe.
Political analyst Chimwemwe Tsitsi echoed Khombe’s sentiments, emphasising that Dr Chakwera’s decision demonstrates a balanced and forward-thinking leadership style that promotes youth inclusion in governance.

“Mumba has a strong track record. He championed consumer rights while serving as Trade Minister. Given his performance and the results of recent surveys where he led as the preferred running mate it is no surprise that many people see his appointment as a good and strategic decision,” said Tsitsi.
