Ministry of Health committs to end drug shartages in hospitals

The Ministry of Health says it has managed to procure medicines and medical supplies worth of US$9million through the World Health Organisation (WHO) from the funds allocated to the ministry under a covid-19 World Bank Grant to combat shortage of medical supplies and drugs in the country

During the handover ceremony of the medical supplies at the Capital Hill in Lilongwe, the Minister of Health, Khumbize Chiponda, expressed gratitute to the World Bank and confirmed to have procured and received, through WHO, medical items which were in shortage supply in various hospitals in the country.

Chiponda also confirmed that the ministry is still engaging WHO to launch another procurement amounting to $1.6 million for other essential medical items to combat combat drug shortages.

Meanwhile, WHO Malawi Representative, Dr Neema Rusibamayila Kimambo, noted that the ministry has saved a significant amount of US$682,565.82 for engaging WHO to procure the supplies and the amount will bennefit the ministry.
