Political analysts believe that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is politically organised, in light of the party’s dominance in the recently concluded by-elections held in Karonga District.
On Wednesday, Justice Chifundo Kachale, the Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), declared MCP candidates Alick Ng’oma, Gift Kumbukani Mwale, and King Ngayambimba Mvula as the winners of Chilanga, Rukuru, and Kaporo wards in the district.
Political analyst Wonderful Mkutche believes that this is a glimpse of the party’s capabilities.
“The party is well-grounded and has effective structures on the ground,” Mkutche said.
He, however, added that this may not directly mirror the outcome of next year’s parliamentary and presidential elections.
Another political commentator, Humphrey Mvula, echoed the sentiments.
“In the political landscape, MCP is better organised. This will encourage them to maintain such a stance,” Mvula remarked.
