Residents of Lugwena in Mangochi have applauded the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) for working hand-in-hand with the National Registration Bureau (NRB) in the voter registration process.
The remarks were made at Lungwena voter registration centre during a voter registration awareness organised by National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE).
According to Anafi White from Lungwena, many people who previously struggled to access NRB services were uncertain about their ability to participate in the 2025 general elections.
The introduction of two separate queues at each voter registration centre—one for MEC and the other for NRB—has streamlined both processes, making them more efficient.
“This is very good because if you don’t have a National Identity Card, you can not register in the voter’s role. For MEC to bring NRB here we are very happy” said Anafi.
Andson Henry Alabi said the joint effort is a step towards ensuring that all eligible citizens can participate in next year’s general elections.
Lungwena MEC registration centre Supervisor, Kalembo Protazio, has since disclosed that they have registered 639 people since registration started on 28 November.
