Masomphenya group offers support to Karonga’s vulnerable

To address some of the challenges facing the elderly and other vulnerable groups in the area of Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga district, some community members have formed a group called Masomphenya.

Spokesperson for the group, Kaizer Simbeye said their aim is to protect the elderly and provide material and psychosocial support to the vulnerable.

Simbeye said they have recently reached out to 29 people in the area of Group Village Headman Burton Malema with hampers containing soap, salt, sugar, soya pieces and other basic items.

“We have started this initiative to support the elderly and other vulnerable groups and it is our expectation that others can emulate,” Simbeye said.
