Man in cooler for rape

Police at Jenda in Mzimba have arrested Aubrey Mhango, 30, on suspicion that he raped a woman [name withheld] at a certain lodge within Jenda Trading Centre in the district after falsefully presenting himself as a tomato seller.

Jenda Police spokesperson, Macfarlen Mseteka, says Mhango lured the woman to a lodge under the pretext of a business meeting with him and his wife to buy tomatoes in bulk.

However, Mseteka says that upon the woman’s arrival, she found only the suspect, who locked the door, assaulted her and threatened her into silence. After the attack, he admitted that the business discussion was a lie and left her in shock.

The woman reported the crime to Jenda Police and was referred to a hospital for an examination where forced sexual intercourse was proven positive.

Mhango hails from Msekenge village, Traditional Authority Mwalweni in Rumphi District. He has been charged with rape which is contrary to section 132 of the penal code.
