Malawi International Arbitration Centre gets financial boost

Spark Systems Limited has donated K10 million to the Malawi Law Society and the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, funds which will go towards the much anticipated Malawi International Arbitration Centre.

The centre is expected to hold its symposium in Lilongwe on the 5th and 6th of September 2024, to create awareness on its operations.

Director of Technic Services for Sparc Systems Limited Chikondi Koloko said they realize how crucial having a business arbitration centre within the country is, citing it is costly to get arbitration services outside the country.

MLS president Patrick Mpaka said making the centre operational will be a milestone as it will deal with the pressure the judicial commercial division has in settling business cases.

“Last year’s judicial annual report indicates the commercial division has a backlog of 2026 cases to be handled by six judges,” said Mpaka.
